Simple - Hospital transports as many pax as possible via air knowing they'll never collect a single dime (demographics. Sorry, its just a fact) or medicare/medicaid/insurance won't cover the full amount. Hospital runs millions of dollars in the red, with helicopters the main LOSS LEADER (look it up).
Quarterly, they go to Uncle Sam with hat in hand, showing how their transport department is running in the red, thus using it as a write-off on the taxes. |
