I guess that really gets to the heart of the union/anti-union issue. A pompous, arrogant pilot with delusions of grandeur feels that he is the best in the business, that he can negotiate his own deal, and doesn't need any old union to speak for him. Compared to himself, someone who is pro-union is just a "mediocre" pilot.
