They carry your collective vote to the college (convention).


Your House Congressmen and Senators are elected by straight-up popular vote, as is your governors, and State legislatures.  City and County leaders.  Sheriffs.


 


If you have a problem with the electorial college, then you must have the same problem with the Senate, since each State has two regardless of population!  Or, with the UN Assembly, since each State (i.e, country) has one voting delegate regardless of it's population.


 


But, the OP's question is:


 


Does a democratic society allow you to write-in a candidate who is not on the ballot?


 


Even in a U.S. election for President, one can nominate oneself and has a blank line to write-in anyone (who will be vetted later).  Right?
