Regarding the military shortage: it's only going to be worse for the industry for next 20 years for the following reasons:

The Army is largest provider of exiting miltards.
The Army just changed a few years ago to 10 years ADSO (so 4 year delay of incoming pilots to the industry starting here in about 6-7 years from now).
The Army is already short applicants (and hiring people who shouldn't be pilots or will scare themselves at their own incompetence and not want to continue a career as a pilot); not by a lot, but they are still shorter than previous years.
The Army shortage is causing retention bonuses/benefits to go into effect (unprecedented ones at that) to keep the few that might want to stay longer.
RTAG and others seem VERY appealing to the younger generation after dealing with Army stupidity and poor leadership so many will at least try to jump ship to the FW world.
The Army already shifted to helicopters that mostly fly themselves and flight school training has VERY little stick/rudder training so most who transition out to a 407/A-Star/similar are going to scare themselves and others so bad they may not want to maintain a helicopter career.

Lower retirement incentive to stay in the military long term is the only thing that may help pilots get out of the military earlier.
