You are the Captain of the Titanic. No matter how much pressure the White Star Line puts on you to make your best time to NYC, if you hit an iceberg, it's your fault. Your certificate imbues you with Command, the moral and legal responsibility for the safe operation of the vessel. It is your responsibility to refuse illegal, unwise, or unsafe orders. Safe operation does not consider profit, that is your job not your responsibility, two completely different concepts. If you lose your job, your certificate will get you another. If you lose your certificate, you will be looking for a job in another profession. That's the FAA's perspective, anyway. |
