and firefighters are somewhat required to take chances in order to accomplish their jobs.  Pilots do NOT get paid to take chances, they get paid to say NO when approriate to their skill set which is intrinsic to the individual pilot who has the final choice to go, or not. 


The former two jobs do not mix well with the latter though mistakes by any could lead to a mishap, accident, injury or death.  


Without regulations, and standards in operating aviation my sense is it would be far more fatal than fire fighting and emergency medicine combined.


Pilots need to control their adrenalin, maybe not so much the other two.
