Happy Veterans Day  

is better than the cold shoulder and in some cases antagonistic behavior Vietnam Veterans received when coming home.  I ignored it all, just so relieved to be home with the ability to 'start over', but a lot of guys who served in the real meat grinder on the ground took the psych hits 'over there' to come home to the land of milk and honey greeted with derision and disrespect, the coup de gras of positive mental and spiritual adjustment.

"Thank you for your service" does get very old, but I'll put up with it because if it keeps the reality of human costs of war somewhat to the forefront of consideration maybe vets will be accorded the status in society they deserve.  One thing for sure those characters in DC, all 530 of them, or so, don't deserve the title of Honorable as much as veterans do.

If you weren't there striving to stay alive, you have no clue.
