During your exit medical (whether ETSing or retiring) they 1st- look at your record and decide if you warrant something THEY think is a disability based on if it occurred during your military service and 2nd- ask you if YOU think you have anything that should be looked into whether you received treatment for it or not. The second reason is what some may call BS as people then moan and ache and say they have this or that but then it's on the military to investigate (and they DO perform whatever evaluation to see if it's legit; x-rays, sleep study, refer to specialist etc.). They don't just hand out disability ratings like candy. It's not as corrupt a system as you think but are there vets who game the system to cheat/steal? Of course there are. |
