As it should be. The first step in learning to fly is attitude control using eyes, ears, brain and hands. Human SAS, not digital cockpit, AFCS and twin engines. Enstrom, Schwietzer or R-44 would have been better, get that left hand working RPM control. Hiller or B-47 if you are a purist. |

I doubt the army is going to skimp. These will be 66 turbines with full glass cockpits and Heli-SAS. Kids will be getting the exact same amount of handholding. Now they’ll have to watch their ass on power management when the Army finds out how a 66 reacts to a overspeeds when there power is limited in 105° Alabama heat. I don’t care about sea level when it’s so frickin hot. Within a year they won’t be allowed to teach autorotations in the summer |

They don't do touchdowns now and it's about 2 million as opposed 7 if they pack it in. |

I’m saying that there are going to be a lot of accidental full downs in the summer |

I don't know about the R66 but the R44 is one of the easiest to do touchdown autos in. Hot and humid never a problem with them. |

It would seem that the Army will soon have an excess of UH-72s once this program is up and running...will they
Door#1 offers Dumping a bunch of UH-72s onto the Civilian market place (originally the cost effective plan from the onset of the program)
Door#2 Offers Shift even more to reserve and national guard units (but the freeing up of Blackhawk frames for overseas operations is somewhat mute)
Door#3 is foreign military sales but Airbus still has a vote and that will not be favorable, they will exercise the right of refusal of support to those particular airframe opting to sell new ones instead...
And the there is the final solution, the OH58D option - call in the crusher
Which one which one...what are your thoughts or additional options |

US will “donate” them to Israel to get around Airbus’s vote power. |

They should use an r22 or hughes 269-a then they will really learn power management. |

Can usually only pick two.
Pretty sure Army went with cheap given all the financial constraints bone spurs and the kegster have forced us into with the latest endeavors...
Robbies can produce just as good of a COMM/IFR pilot as any other helicopter.
Not sure how long it will take for them to certify the R66 for Instruments.
Remember, all current mission aircraft (i.e., NOT the Lakota) can fly themselves. The new MV-75 will be pilot optional out of the factory... |

The AH-64 all weather freedom fighter can most certainly not “fly itself.” You have to actually be an aviator to fly and fight this aircraft. Black Hawk pilots have a different experience. |

I forgot that's actually the case. I went for years thinking by the E model that they had fully automated you guys given how advanced the D was when it came out.
Then a former student took me and my kids over to play around on the LCT and I was shocked how rudimentary your screens/interface was.
It was there I found out you guys basically only have heading hold!!! You actually have to fly the whole route the whole time like an old L model Hawk or D model Chinook. In the year of our Lord 2026...
Shocking |

Army wouldn't invest in a FMS to your AFCS but did make sure you had a FDR so we can figure out why you crashed. |
