Word on the street was that Med Trans was about to increase pilot pay. Latest email says only hard to fill bases will get a pay raise. That doesn't entice the rest of us to stay. What say you?

It's rough when I work a base where the new 1500 hours guy makes more than me at a these hard to fill bases.

They hide pay increases in location bonuses instead of just raising base pay and tiers across the board. It’s how they keep pay low for the other 80% of pilots and filling the spot and solving the problem. They can also arguably take it away at any time so it’s not really yours until it’s in your account. 

it certainly isn’t a raise so they can’t hide something they never gave you in the first place . it also is not arguable that it can be taken away as it most certainly could stop anytime. amc does have in their contract experience bonuses must continue for the life of the contract. they also have guaranteed 4% pay raises. but I was told it was such a bad contract?

what is meant by location bonus? Is that the same as a Geo mod? AMC also has those written into their contract. Think about that kids

Why I said arguably because I can’t realistically speak for all of the companies and their contracts. And yes Geo-Mod, location bonus, incentives anything that can be taken away. They can pay for a pilot to fly, rent a room, work a few shifts (with that temporary summer bonus of 500/shift) then fly back….but there’s no money for real raises that reflect the pilot shortage that’s only getting worse.

The original post says Med Trans is raising pay but only for hard to fill bases. Anon responds that to remember that in many cases, it’s a pay “increase” that can be taken away and to be cautious and the need for change…. I don’t see what’s so hard about getting from point A to point B for you.

EMS flying is not for everyone.  Most EMS pilots take the job because it’s close to home, has a set schedule, and the rest they can deal with.  If this is your calling, quit complaining.  Otherwise, “It’s time for you to leave Grasshopper".

I’m not HEMS. However, I’ve worked some jobs that paid more than my co-workers simply because of where the job was. That’s true in almost any employment.

Winter on the north slope of Alaska paid better than routine power line patrols in central Florida.

Any medical pilot living and working in border towns Texas should get paid more.

It will trickle down to the rest of us...though a misleading email, it is mostly designed for those Hard to fill locations that have had YEARS of open spots...yep, NM, TX etc...They will offer the pilots that are there full time, every 6mo a good size bonus....and those signed on will get a HUGE sign on that will be paid out over 1-2yrs...I hope it isn't like what PHI is doing, because what they are doing is misleading and have to pay it back if they leave before their 3-5yr agreement.  eventually we are all gypsy's so yeah, if you want to leave, you can...no matter where you go, SAME JOB, Different flight suit...nothing is different in HEMS

Lord folks, read the email again...  It's an increase in the current GEO MOD for several bases.  

Pilot pay across the board is the same but if you choose to work at some place ln the middle of BFE New Mexico they you will make more.

Call it what you want...  ACCRA, GEO MOD, Location incentive, whatever.
