Usually it’s just instruction but I do get commercial work at times. One off stuff since our drone dies the photo missions now.

My question is- is it OK for paying customers to shoot AR15 replicas that only fire blanks out of the side of the 44? Doors off of course. It’s some sort of movie preview job. I’d be flying over a few school buses parked with zero people around pretty high around 500ft. School is out for summer so nobody is around. They’re doing a preview for a red dawn style movie

Your issue won’t be with the FAA. Local law enforcement will likely be the agency you’ll get attention from and surprisingly the screen actors guild that hold a tight grip on any real movie production flying.

That said, if you hold a SAG card you can demand more money if this is an actual movie production.

As long as everyone is belted in, passengers briefed, nothing is strapped to the helicopter, no dropping things and flying in a safe way you’ll be fine as far as the faa are concerned. Let the local pigs know though, flying a helicopter around draws a lot of eyes and someone is going to call if they see a gun replica.

PIG is the acronym for Pride, Integrity and Guts. Not a slur. Contacting local law enforcement and asking for their help and advice in crowd and traffic control is a great way to have them on your side if any issues arise. Don't disrespect them by ignoring them. Everyone loves breaking up the routine but nobody likes surprises.

This is legal, but if it weren't it wouldn't matter. The FAA doesn't take action on anymore. You can engage in blatant regulation violations and nothing will happen.

Just watch the internet, idiots all over,

Watch that moron in the Bell 222 make multiple violations putting the public in harms way, and the FAA never even dared take action.

The FAA is a useless entity capable of nothing.

You can decapitate an innocent person standing in a field while you bank and put the blades that low, and the FAA won't touch you. I think you're fine.

Talk to your POI. You may be the final authority on whether you do it or not…but the FAA will have the final say on if it’s legal or not. Informing local law enforcement as mentioned above is a great way to avoid issues with them. A helicopter that appears to be shooting up school buses might get their attention these days. And they will know the local noise laws etc. Also, watch out for all the ejected brass flying around in the cockpit and FODing out your flight controls.

BTW…is Alec Baldwin involved? Most Hollywood clowns don’t know anything about firearms. Are they really prop guns?

Lots to consider here.
