Wow. That was quite the effort. Should be fun to hear more of the gritty details when they come out.
The book The Guts To Try about the failed 1980 Iran rescue is an amazing read. There was so much amazing stuff that went on (and so many things that almost failed BEFORE the helicopter collided into the C130).
Also, the book about the rescue of Bat21 in Vietnam is another absolutely unreal story (the movie doesn't come close to doing justice to the book).
Despite the crap we give military pilots, they do pull off some amazing stuff sometimes. |

Key word, “sometimes”. We have a great military capable of great things, we just need to have the right people calling the shots. With the advanced electronic capabilities we have today and the brain power we have to use them, why does it take 2 days to “locate” a downed pilot? Hell, I could have given each of them an Apple Air Tag and found them in 20 minutes. |

It was intended to be a homology. I can explain it to you, but I can’t comprehend it for you. To put it in pilot talk, "don’t get your shorts in a wad". |

5 aircraft lost, 11 crew killed, and 6 more aircraft severely damaged just to try to rescue Bat 21.
In the end, a sincle crazy Navy Seal lieutenant (O-3) snuck behind enemy lines, helped carry him to a river, and floated him downriver to safety.
The book does blow away the movie (which was good but missed so many amazing details). |
