That's the cost of the Artemis II mission as of 2025 just to do a fly-by of the moon.
We did the same mission before when we called humans "computers". For real, kids, look it up.
In the 80's, the space shuttle landing guidance system circuit board was less than a scientific calculator today (and not even a TI-82 graphing/engineering calculator).
Elon Musk says 5 years from now we'll be doing manned space flight to Mars (in something completely different than the Orion capsule used on this trip)... yet we NEEDED to do a flyby before landing this time?
With the exponential leap in technology since then, we needed to do a ridiculously expensive flyby first?how to land the space shuttle |

There is always the necessity to enhance the dramatics. Taken at face value it seems mundane and redundant. I’m guessing this is merely a prelude of something more in depth, they’re just not letting the cat out of the bag. |

that comes out to roughly $100,000 per second of Artemis flight time. A colossal waste for a nation in massive debt. It's welfare for the defense sector. We always have enough money for war, but we never have any money for our people or our country. |

Even if we do try to colonize Mars everyone realizes only the rich will be on those flights, right?
No way you can "evacuate the earth"... the numbers don't add up to how many ships it would require.
People are so dense.
Good thing we have so many 100's of billions to throw at these types of programs.
Thanks DOGE!!! |

I remember watching Neil & Buzz in 1969 land on the moon on our black and white 18" Admiral TV. Neil hand flew it after the guidance computer was overloaded. Those were the real guys doing test pilot stuff back then. I cannot figure out why the plan wasn't to land. We have the technology and skills from previous Apollo missions. Heck, if all they were doing was taking photos of potential landing sites, why not send an unmanned photo and sensor array. A lot cheaper and just as effective. They could have tested the launch vehicle and duration and system check on the Orion in earth orbit. We flew into moon orbit in 1968 with Apollo 8. I loved the space program all my life until the Obama administration re-designated it an outreach program. Now, I sticking with Musk. |
