Currently have 1500 R22 and 3 R44 hours. The rest is in Sikorsky, Eurocopter Bell, MD etc.

I need 25 total hrs in R44 for SFAR. Looking for a cheap (or free) way to build R44 time, so I could fly a couple of days a week for a local R44 outfit after I retire from HAA. 

if you've been alive for more than 15 minutes, let alone a 6000 hour helicopter pilot, how is it even possible you think somebody is going to give you free time in an r44

Early in my career I got free time in a Bell 206, by ferrying it from the West to the East US coasts. I only had 3 hours of B206B time but that trip gave me what I needed to land my next job. The owner who rode as my passenger had 200 hours total time, and my 1200 hours of piston time and 3 hours of turbine time got me the gig, which included hotel and food. I had 3 coast to coast ferry flights previously.

Free flight time is out there, just need to be creative.

things like that do come up but not when you need it to happen and not in the specific aircraft you need it in. 

those coast to coast ferry flight are all over the place. you just have to be "creative" and you too can create a cross country flight in an r44

Most of those flight-time “opportunities” are actually opportunities for an owner or operator to avoid the cost of ferrying an aircraft somewhere. Find a helicopter pilot trying to build time to get to his/her “dream” EMS job someday and tell them what a good deal you’re offering for the opportunity to log “valuable PIC time” at this greatly reduced rate (which happens to coincide with the operating cost of the helicopter plus the hourly rate of his pilot who will be in the left seat for insurance purposes). There will ALWAYS be an inexperienced pilot who doesn’t know any better and will take them up on the offer. Know your worth ladies and gentlemen.
