if you don't think your job will be taken by autonomous flight in the next 10-20 years:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RgaJWYRfHA

This is the latest and greatest version I've seen.  Didn't know Moog was in on this game (rising defense and commercial contractor).

But think about it: they've made autonomous systems for the UH-60, S-76, UH-1, EC-145, Bell 407, EC-130, K-Max, Schweizer 300, R44/R66, Cabri G2, and now here's one for the Bell 206.

They're just building the hours, data, and stats to prove how much safer they are than you knuckleheads flying them.  Really any military aircraft with CAAS architecture can be made autonomous.  All of the newer, integrated 4-axis autopilot aircraft can be switched over.

Pilot shortage + a few more sensational crashes = autonomous pilots fielding

Autonomous aircraft flight is indeed becoming truly remarkable. In jobs where there are no passengers (some utility, ENG etc…), I fully agree with you. Those jobs will be outsourced to aircraft without pilots. The fallacy in this thinking though is when you add passengers to the equation. It will take decades to convince passengers that unmanned aircraft are safe enough to fly in without the use of a human pilot. Think of the airlines. Large commercial jets can (and do) fly themselves. Convincing the general public to climb into a pilotless aircraft is the real struggle.

Don't auto-hover or take-off or approach-to-a-hover.

Autopilots have been in planes for many more years than helicopters and they've never been able to "land" until recently (they announce "retard" (because they don't control throttles) and the pilot does the flare and touchdown).

Only more recently have they been able to land to touchdown (CirusJet Garmin Auto-Land or the latest Cessna Caravan or King Air Garmin Auto-Land) or auto-takeoff (Embraer recent E190 certification).

But you're right, autopilots been around forever that did all flying duties, bro.  lol

Googled something similar.   If they can make the EC-130 stable via autopilot, that's impressive as it's squirrelly as F!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2qDSt3ACmM

All controlled by a tablet.

Medcrew can finally have their dream: EC-130 cabin (vs tiny Bell cabin) and no pilot at all to worry about.

Until God stops making convective activity and shear that can momentarily put a plane into a position that exceeds roll and/or pitch authority and kicks the autopilot off, I won’t sweat it too much.

They got fighter jets now controlled by AI... don't think you'll need to worry about your Gen1 autopilot kicking off AI Fighters

Not a boomer, and I fly a fairly advanced aircraft. It does alot of things very well, but human intervention is still required at times. Why the hostility?

Too much inertia for at least one pilot being present.

They have already flown passengers on autonomous aircraft. It won't take too much for people to make the switch.

All they will have to do is tout the safety record of autonomous aircraft vs piloted aircraft as 80% of accidents are human error. Then provide highly discounted flights and fill voids during the next pilot strike which will eventually come. The transition will happen. Or in the case of the military, just tell the troops to get on. Then use that record to sell it to the public.

You will always have the early adapters and those laggards who will wait to see how it goes and may take a while to warm up to the technology, but it will happen.

you assume autonomous aircraft will be safer but that remains to be seen. you just can’t tell people it’s safer. they will make up their own minds

N-numbered aircraft will have accident data recorded by the FAA so there will be data eventually. I like the point about eventually using military data but unless there's a massive drop in military pilots, they'll still rely on pilots to fly troops.

there will eventually be data for something that doesn't exist yet is a really good point
