There was a very limited production of 206L-2 LongRangers, 17 of them were made before Bell moved on to the 206L-3, they all had serial numbers beginning with 466 (46601 through 46617). The 206L and L-1s were in the 45*** serial number range and the 206L-3 started in the 51*** serial numbers. Not sure why it had such a short run. Only 8 still seem to have survived, they get listed as 206L rather than 206L-2 in the production list (2nd link below).

Incorrect.  Those were all straight L’s with C20’s in em.  Who knows why bell did the numbering that way but they weren’t some mythical 206L2, no reason to make an L2 with a tiny turd of an engine after they made the L1 with the big turd of an engine.

The initial run of 206L-1 helicopters had the 250-C28 engines which had problems right from the start. While Bell and RR worked on those problems, Bell ran the additional series of 17 206 'straight' L models with the C20B and water alcohol injection system. A number of those aircraft were later converted to C20R engines.

Same reason they never made a B2 - when they went to the 3rd iteration of the 206 and 206L, they decided the model number should match the iteration.  B3 was the 3rd Jetbox, L3 was the 3rd Longbox.  They obviously realized how confusing it is (god knows I’ve heard a lot of people go on and on about what they think a B2 Jetbox is) and started doing random and nonsensical letter suffixes for subsequent iterations of machines (SP, HP, EP, EPI, EPX, GX, GXP, GXI, etc).
