There is a considerable lack of skills and knowledge within this industry now.
It seems like these ems companies are just scraping the bottom of the barrel, both from a training standpoint and from an employee standpoint.
But then again, I look at the fire season I was on, I'm judging by some of the long line skills, the people on the dipsite sight, we're not much better. |

Gosh who would've thought 30 years of good old boys clubs and only hiring pilots with 5,000 hours and not training new meat would lead to this. I personally am shocked. |

Don't know how some feel about this but at my EMS program we do a couple dozen "scene calls" per year. Is it even worth it anymore for us to do them here? NO. We have fire departments setting up a place to land that may or may not be ideal. Then we send a pilot, who may or may not be proficient at whatever time day or night, with a so-called medical crew (THAT in all circumstances is not an Aircrew) to go land and if anything goes wrong we blame that same pilot. Fire Department, Medical Crew never to blame, aircraft manufacturer never to blame, company check airmen never to blame. Not trying to push blame off but why are some of us doing these flights? I get it in remote or mountainous areas where getting to a hospital may take hours but I fly in a huge area where there is a hospital with minutes just about everywhere |

My program flies nearly 600 flights a year and 85% are scene calls. Just goes to show how different each program is. |

Is not what it was when we were on our own certificate back in the nineties. AIRM came in and destroyed what was once a very envious and just downright safe and fun place of employment. Great aircraft, great maintenance, great communications, great ground and flight teams...Just another big box HAA op, now. Former ARCH guy...
