Who has one of these? Saw them, tried it on, and could not get into it. Not approved for DOI / USFS, wouldn’t share their testing documents when asked, have to put it on a certain way, lenses that cannot hold up to exposure, shape that’s bulky and hits the bubble cause the stupid little fin on the back. Amazes me how these helmet companies try all this stuff and still can’t take lessons from each other on how to create an actual decent safe helmet. Gallet still is the only best option out there for those who do lots of actual work / flying. |

But Air Tractor pilots just look so cool in Gallets.
They probably call them "gallet" helmets (like mallet) just like the dumb helicopter guys call it a "pee-tot" tube instead of "pee-toe" tube.
The American language is made up of multiple language amalgamations... don't be an idiot when you talk. There's a thing called a dictionary if you need help. |

HGU-56 is light and has tons of protective data (can get from the company or the Army Aeromedical Research Lab).
You do look like Darth helmet though.
If you fly doors off, the maxillofacial shield is pretty awesome. |

I flew Army and EMS over the past 20 years (so whether in cockpit with another dude/dudette or watching other pilots come to/from hospitals I never saw someone with sunglasses AND the smoke lens down.
Now maybe there was one or two with prescription sunglasses that had the clear visor down for better eye bird protection but never the smoke over the sunglasses. |

Who are you? Just because you didn't see a pilot wear sunglasses and the smoke visor means it isn't a common practice? I also spent time in the military and civil with 47 years in the cockpit. I have always worn both...As have my associate pilots.

Just sayin... I noticed that people flew with their sunglasses and didn't also have their smoke visor (for those I flew with I can confirm they never pulled the smoke down)... for those I'd see fly in/out of a hospital, maybe they used both in flight but even when landing or taking off on a sunny day when I'd see them on the helipad their smoke visor wasn't always dow.
Just made me scratch my head.
Less earcup seal (noise) and definitely uncomfortable in comparison to no glasses; and I used to fly with prescription aviators (issued flat side frames) when I flew in the Army.
Just never understood it... |

Why would anyone care, including you, what another pilot chooses to do with light filtration? It is none of anyone's business but the pilot's. Who give's a rats A##? How old are you??? |

Never heard of them. What are they modelled off of?
I know AMC does an old SPH knockoff (SUPER heavy too) from some random company not known for great helmets. |

The AV2.1 is a great helmet. Its 1 pound lighter than my Gallet. They just received NVG mounts for it as well so I'm getting that installed. Its the next step in aviation safety, honestly how old is the Gallet/SPH technology? 30 years or more? As far as testing I'm going to assume the Air Forces testing is more thorough than DOI. Its been sled tested etc.
I love the Gallet but this is the next step. They are releasing a rotor specific version, I do hope its DOI approved. |

Lift is what all the YouTuber Heli jokers wear. They’re not tested and the visors allow tons of air to come in, and don’t protect your eyes when out the door all day. Gallet still is the winner |

Has no testing data when I asked as well. Considered one over Gallet, but not approved and never will be. They’re made for airplanes, and people who want to feel cooler. |

Thing's like 5 lbs... that must mean it will keep your head totally safe, right?
That must be why AMC chose them |
