If you are proficient it is fun.  The check pilot relaxes and puts you into situations he can trust you wont screw up too bad.  You job is to prove him right.  Lots of full downs, easier than power recoveries.  And i too had an actual and the passenger asked why did we land.  It happens very fast, its not like practice.  To be truly well trained os a priveledge.
