You’re working 12 hour shifts but in the summer you should plan on 14. If you go home, you’re too exhausted to spend time with your family or help out much. Plus most start/end time (in my experience) tends around 6/7/8 so you’ll be getting home past bedtime anyway and gone before they wake up. So your spouse will be on their own in a lot of ways for childcare, errands and school pickup/dropoff, dinner etc. Ever heard of AIDS? Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome? Of course you also get a week off that you can spoil the hell out of them too so it’s kinda two extremes that you will juggle. Of course there are plenty of other factors that can change that, but as a fellow pilot with young kids, these have been the biggest challenges. |
