It has to do with the sealing of the respirator and/or N-95.  Any stubble around the face seal has been identified by the CDC and OSHA to reduce the sealing capability of the device.  Typically, beards degrade the filtering properties of the respirator and/or filtering mask.

If a company has pilots in the air medical sector threatening to quite because they can't meet the standards for their position due to a beard, out the door...Or shave.

Now, I'm sure all the bearded ladies will downvote this, but go to OSHA and the CDC for all complaints.

You guys can't figure this stuff out on your own???
