I too hate to criticize the Navy pilot on that hoist, however I second the suggestion that the Coast Guard would be a much better choice. Several years ago while working as an SAR pilot in the west coast, my agency hired a former CG pilot who trained us in hoisting over water. His goal was to bring our unit skills up the standards he was used to in his Coast Guard experience. He shared the tips and techniques that were developed over decades of hoist work, and made a fantastic improvement in our performance .Perhaps someone at the top end of the Navy food chain should look into some similar training for their folks.
