Talk about stupid  

Once upon a time, 

I had to work in the field to cover for a fella.  I was a hangar rat.  Didn't know much about field work, was just told to go out there and work for the month.  It was hurricane season of course.  They had me in Fourchon.  NO hangars.  412 had a compass write up.  The temp lead they installed was Coin-tot.  The biggest idiot you'd ever met, but someone had to be lead....so they stuck him with it.  I barely knew the dude.  But knew enough about him to know he was a genuine moron.  

So this guy thought it was his job to clear the book of all MEL's and writeups.....avionics related or not.  We had a tropical storm spinning right over the top of us.  They were not flying customers all day.  Been raining cats and dogs.  Rain band after rain band.  The roads were starting to flood.  Coin-tot says "we need to do something about this compass write up."  I said I could ohm out some wires and maybe troubleshoot....if we had it in a hangar.....

He said well we don't, so go out there and ohm out some stuff, we need to do something.  I'm like sure but my meter don't work in the rain bro....and it's pouring right now.

So I got my marching orders from the moron, and I go out with my slicker suit and trusty fluke.  I start checking connectors at the tarzan units and I'm getting drenched.  Meter is showing continuity on f-ucking every wire I touch....pointless.  I go back in and say bro, my meter is soaked and giving false readings.  pointless.  Then  he says, maybe we can do a compass swing and sign it off like that.

I was like, this dude is insane.

SO with Frank Ochoa outside standing knee deep in a grass field with a compass on a stick, trying to hand signal thru sheets of rain, I'm in a hovering 412 with a pilot who is just as confused as to what the f-uck we are even trying to accomplish.  

Needless to say we didn't get anywhere with that write up...but it got pencil ------- whipped just the same as if we really did something.

Phi bro.  Some of the stupidest decisions....by some of the dumbest people put in positions they are not qualified for......just because they stayed around collecting a check longer than the next guy.
