Don't rely on your GOM to make safety calls for you. I have the left side Med crew member open the door when I'm below 40kts. They keep their weight inside the helicopter but step out on the skid to help me clear any unseen obstacles. It's the safest thing to do. We train this at the base as well during any post-maintenance Flights. Piggy back those and you get enough reps in no prob.
