Even a small rain shaft- microburst in the current vernacular, kicks out a lot of air around the rainshaft and that wind can be moving pretty quick, 20, 30 knots. Had one in the middle of 3 mile diameter Gulf of Mexico production field doing excatly that. Fly around it from one structure top another, didn't have to guess the wind on the pad being approached, just turn the nose to the rain shaft and land...

The good news is that individual cells like that are relatively brief, 15-20 minutes before they rain out. The squall line that that cell is associated with is another thing entirely. Don't be ahead of the line...
