I have to admit, not having nvgs down is a bad practice, which I find myself doing too often. 95 percent of the time I'm usually at a cardinal altitude that I've flown 1000 times on the route before. Another recent issue is a ton of migratory birds, both day and night, some as high as 2000 ago. Haven't studied this incident very much, but I did find it surprising to see a utube video already with the creator praising the pilot. Huh? Isn't the goal to not hit stuff in flight?
