Message He is absolutely correct. Despite what the regulatory minimums are, it is still going to take the average person 40-60 hours of helicopter time to become proficient enough to pass a private pilot check ride. If he is going to get a commercial rating and start looking for work, he can save some time and money there, but unless he has an industry "in," he will be competing with applicants that have more helicopter time than he does.
