Message You will be hired to cover a position at a specific base. That opening is usually due to a medical condition of a pilot that is expected to be resolved In the future. Once that person returns you will be used as a regional or national relief pilot. When hired you will sign a training contract during Indoc that obligates you to stay with AMC for a year. I won't argue the legalities of such contract here, that's a whole different thread. After a year you are free to resign.
I was a temporary hire for a base. After 4 months at the base my position became permanent when the pilot I was covering for lost his medical for good.
