isn't a benefit but do not listen to your employer when you leave or get involuntarily pushed onwards as to the interaction betwixt severance and unemployment insurance!  Big time.  When you become unemployed sign up for benefits and leave it at that.  On downsizing our corporate flight dept HR told me if I applied for UE benefits my severance would be discontinued - the state had a word with them.  Another way of saying eff HR!
