Message Years ago, the FAA changed from saying "Settling With Power" in all of their publications to saying "Vortex Ring State" in most of their publications. The last time I looked, the FSIMS still listed recognition and recovery from "settling with power" as the maneuver to be checked. The US Army and the FAA terms conflicted, and it seems the FAA decided to adopt the Army version. I believe what the Army calls Power Settling is what we civilians called F***ing up and not having adequate power to arrest a descent, say in a high gross weight, high DA situation.
