Parking spots standard width is 9' I tend to use those more than highways as the highways around here are so big its kinda of a non issue.  It you are trying to judge clearance to light poles in a parking lot that will help you out.  Granted most everyone here can kinda of picture it in their head and know if they are going to fit but it certainly helps the newer guys who may want a much larger than needed LZ.  One of the first things I do with any new aircraft i fly is go put a rock at the edge of the disk at the front and sides on the ground then climbing in the cockpit and see what that looks like for just how close you can actually land to something and not hit it.  In time it becomes second nature but all of us who have worked with newer pilots and they swear they are about to hit the edge of a building or pole during landing but its 50' away.
