Been doing HAA for a long time. The only thing I ever liked about it was the occasional opportunity to sleep at night when the weather is crap, and seven days off (meaning, I was happy to not be at work). The pay has always been crap, akin to that of a school teacher, with crappies benefits. Yes, in some programs, more can be made working extra shifts, but that's true in any job. Alas, I am too old to make the switch now, almost like a captive codependent wife. These "shortage" opportunities just weren't there when I was young. If I was 35, there is no question I wouldn't be doing this now. If you still have 8 or more years eat, you are stupid if you don't consider getting out HAA. What was once a destination job for helicopter pilots is now little more than health ride.
