They will train you based on the needs of the company. However, you generally must meet the basic hiring requirements of a position. They "generally" will not put you in an IFR position if you don't meet the requirements for an IFR position. But, I've known pilots in the company that moved from VFR to IFR and didn't meet the IFR requirements. So, anything is possible. If you are external (not currently with AMC), take any position, get a seniority number, and build your seniority until you get the location/ airframe you want. I know a pilot who came from tours 5 years ago. Started in a vfr single engine base in the middle of nowhere. Transferred internally to multi engine vfr base that no one wanted. Then got a multi engine IFR base as a vfr only pilot. Now is west coast multi engine SPIFR pilot. Pay your dues and work hard.
