The position is temporary, but the job is full-time permenant.   It means this position is protected for the pilot it belongs to, who may be away on a medical leave of absence, military leave of absence, etc.   They are coming back to it sometime in the future, maybe, and AMC is not allowed to give it away yet permenantly.

If you apply, you will work the position like it is a full-time position until the pilot returns.   If it's filling in for a medical leave of absence, that pilot has 12 months to return to it, and if he doesn't the position is first offered to the temporary pilot to keep as his own.   The pilot away will have to bid on some other open position in the company at that point.   Don't thinks this holds true for a military leave of absence.

If the pilot returns to the position, the temporary pilot then bids on any other open position IAW the bidding process in the CBA according to his seniority.

Find out why there is a temporary position open and you will have a better idea if taking the position will likely result in a permenant assignment or if it's truly temporary.
