When I flew old a@@ H60's off an aircraft carrier, my buddy came in after a brief night flight, and he was white as a ghost.

Apparently, when the "chocks and chains" gang removed the gear, they left an extra tiedown chain attached to the helicopter and the deck ~ he said the helicopter almost rolled over the edge on liftoff.  

Ever since then, when I flew on ship decks, I would lift very gingerly, if I could (sea state, pitch and roll, etc, permitting).
