Message Back in the days if you flew fires you were also a logger. Same on the ground. If you were a Cat skinner you fought fire.
Timber was money and life on the north coast and most everything north of Redding. I saw a change when the spotted owl was used as the reason logging slowed then stopped.
40 years later overgrown forests and terrible management of really vast amounts of timber, I mean unfathomable to those not from Northern California, have lead to places no entity can ever slow a fire.
That said, also gone are the days when loggers like myself saw profits burning and didn’t screw around getting fire out fast. Pretty boys with $30 million helicopters just will never get it.
