Message Many times I was asked by a Pilot, "Do you want me to write this discrepancy up?"
My answer was always the same, If you write it up, one of three things is going to happen. #1 I'm going to fix the problem. #2. If I can't fix it, I'll see if it can be MEL'd so you can continue with your scheduled flight(s) and order any parts that might be needed. #3. If I can't do either one or the other, it is grounded and you will have to find another aircraft to finish your day. The choice is yours, it doesn't matter to me. It will get fixed now or later.
Mechanics should be very careful about discussing whether or not a discrepancy should be documented. It may come back to bite you.
