You are limited to 8 hours single pilot during a 14 hour duty day. Your plan allows a pilot to continue past 14 hours, until he exceeds 8 hours by less than 30 minutes, more than 30 minutes, and more than an hour, which clearly cannot be the intent of the regulation.
