That was my experience as well. The more toxic crew at the base where I worked would state their unwillingness to fly, however if the pilot declined or aborted the flight and listed the reason for the decline or abort as that medical crewmember declining under the 51% rule, it created resentment toward the pilot. Bottom line...I as a pilot was expected to come up with a reason and/or bend the truth in such a way as to justify declining the flight, often when weather was perfectly safe to fly in. I'm certainly not proud of bending to the pressure, but anyone here who's worked at a toxic base has likely experienced something similar. And don't get me wrong. It's not all med crew or bases. I used to do a ton of workovers and never saw this at other bases within the region.
