if you got corresponding cash for not being "actually" employed, it could have been a mistake. if you didn't get corresponding cash, then it could be either a mistake or something more than a mistake. but, someone will have gotten the cash that corresponds to the W2 somewhere. if it wasn't you, then it needs to be determined. they have you paying taxes (SSA, IRS, State) on that "income" you never got. if you don't get satisfaction with HR, you can try their hotline to grab someone's attention.
