The military makes their own "practice approaches".  Going to the back of ships at night (not a CV), we practiced self contained surveillance approaches which consistently produced better MAP/DH alignment than the shipboard controllers did.  Wouldn't use it for a routine procedure but it's always nice to know there is that one last option.
