True that, but with an ATP you aren't stuck being an just EMS pilot.  

If your company can give you the ATP ride at recurrent training then I'd highly recommend taking the ATP written (Sheppard Air has a wonderful written prep course that's pretty inexpensive!) and scheduling the ride with your company.  It WILL pay hugh dividends if you desire to do something else.
