If solar was so great and economical , the government would not be involved at all. In a free market system I am going to go with the cheapest, most reliable source Of energy.  I have a wood burning stove for the cold winters. Summertime I use a lot of electricity for the AC. government needs to get out of the way and let the free market pick the winners and losers.
