I gave a STAR to a my co pilot when we were going into Wright Patterson. He had never seen one before, and just laughed. Half way there we were assigned the STAR, and he whipped it out of his chart bag. I will say that it was as rare as a blue moon to be assigned a STAR, while in the military. I will also say, that it would be close to impossible to accurately navigate one without RNAV, or something similar.
