Helicopter Xpress based out of Georgia seems like a good company to apply for.  Anyone ever worked there questions? Comments? Concerns?

  My guess working for Helicopters Xpress you would be gone most of the year. 

Good management and a stable company with plenty of work. The medium and above programs are great. The lights are very hit and miss with brand new fire pilots up to some experienced short haul pilots. Mostly luck of the draw with who you work with and how good it is on the lights.

Been retired more than ten years after a nearly fifty year career .

Spent a lot of time away from home, but loved the life. Still married

after more than thirty years and love retirement.

Working for firms similar to the one you are asking about is similar 

to the life of a musician. You need feel like Willy Nelson in his song

"On the road again". If you don't, that life is not for you.

Best be married to a spouse who likes to see the front side of you as much as the back side toddling off to work for a while.  

My wife used to exclaim when off to a trip or work rig away for a night, or weeks, or months, that she'll be able to get xyz project done, and when I arrive home, "good, let's do this or that".  None of it phased her.

Can't have a clingy spouse in this business.  Both must roll with the punches and stand on their own two feet for sure. 

They always have good equipment..new aircraft..nice trucks..never worked there but worked alongside for many years..Lots of long term folks..I have actually seen the owner in the field flying on occassion.

They're having growing pains after acquiring Erickson. They're soooo desperate to find field crews that they're hiring young, inexperienced boys and girls and fast-tracking them to crane captain. Probably a good place to advance your career, but be careful as they're on-track to hurt someone. Most experienced utility pilots and mechanics are avoiding them like the plague until they come to their senses and realize that they don't know everything there is to know about operating heavy helicopters. 

Look at all the inexperienced heavy pilots they’re trying to put in the seat. This season 90% of the time we saw a HX crane it looked like it couldn’t even hover. Growing pains is right.
