Waiting on FAA medical decision +0/-0

I'm stuck in the eternal waiting game for a decision from the FAA medical board about my Class 2 medical after an issue with Afib. Has anyone used your local Congressman to try to help push the process along? I'm aware that the average wait time right now is 7-12 months but I received an answer on a first round after only 6 weeks but they only asked for additional info. Now I'm at the 9 month mark waiting for a second answer. I've already talked to AOPA and my AME with no help. I feel like my packet should've been near the top of the stack once they got the additional info since this was a second round. Anyway, it apparently isn't. I also don't want to be seen as a troublemaker by the board and get punished. Just curious if anyone knows an effective way to push this along. |

I did talk to them already. All they could tell me is that my packet is with the board waiting to be reviewed which is the same info I get every time I call the FAA supplied number. I was very disappointed to find out that they don't have any extra clout. |

What was the secondary information the FAA medical board asked for? I just submitted the long list of tests my AME expected after a paroxysmal afib diagnosis. In my case less than 5% of afib events in a 30 day Holter monitor study. I too was told not to expect any response for 90-120 days.

Also had an issue and was on wait. First, The Medical branch of the FAA is not the worst run area of the Federal Government. It shares that title with most of the agencies. Most of the Federal Government is poorly run. In fact anyone who has dealt with any Federal Agency will say that the one they deal with, the IRS FBI DOD VA and many others, is the worst. With that stated, your congressman is there for this very thing. So is your Senator, your Governor can not help you but they are still the governor of a state and they may also give advice. Call a law office that deals with the Medical branch of the FAA, they may be able to help. Finally, put pressure on your FAA examiner, most of them are not there for us like they should be in times of trouble. But, you paid them to help you, in time of good AND bad. Don't let them off the hook. They discovered something and they should be helping you. Report them to your state medical board if they don't. |

After waiting 7 months I called Ted Cruz office and left a lengthy message. Amazingly enough, the FAA contacted me the very next day and followed through with my issue. |

with the FAA indicates just communicate with them on a weekly basis, whether email, phone, letter, whatever. That does get attention after awhile. Indicate a cc to xyz jkldsk, Esq. All the little hints will get you attention as long as the communications are brief, polite and to the point. |
