Canada has grounded the Bell Medium fleet too since it seems like a similar accident to Yellowheads, which is almost 3 years to the day.

lots of Mediums on fires at the moment too.

Fire managers and the TSB have yet to release details on the crash, the condition of the occupants, or how the accident occurred. I was informed that Bell 212s across Canada had been grounded until further notice.

Pray

An email making the rounds from the Forest Service says it was an Airwolf strap.  They've grounded all 2 blades mediums as of this morning.

The grounding is only for Mediums with Airwolf straps now.
interestingly it looks like the Airwolf 2 year calendar life strap part number that failed.

That was always the issue with them and Bell, that they wouldn't increase the 2 year life.

Airwolf make a 3 year life version so let's hope it's not a miscalculation on the time-life.

Straps are not condemned after an Overspeed...

1. Perform overspeed inspection as follows:

b. Main rotor hub assembly.

(1) Remove main rotor hub. Remove main rotor
blades.

(2) Perform an overhaul conditional evaluation inspection. Make an entry in component record to show reason for removal was overspeed. Include amount of overspeed and duration, if known.

An Overspeed is defined as anything over 110% NR...

Engineer: "record amount of overspeed if known"  Pilot:  "I think I saw 112%" but it was coming back down because I loaded it up, so I'm not really sure.  Engineer: That airframe had extra weight in the tip cap pocket because it wouldn't track quite right.  Mathematician:  That extra weight in the tip cap is negligible compared to dirty blades.      Metallurgist: Those TT straps don't have much of a "memory" so it should be good.  Sign it off !!!
