I have tried them all.

If you are using a 1960's era Gentex SPH it's time for an upgrade.

Gallet is light and works great till you need glasses. Unless they are face hugging you may not be able to use the close in visor.

I went to an Alpha Eagle a couple of years ago and absolutely love it. It looks clunky but dosent feel clunky. Excellent noise supression... you can get it so snug no ear plug are required.

As usual be sure to try on before you send your money in. It seems the prices have doubled in the last few years.

One company out there allows pilot to purchase new helmets at 50% off, and pay the remainder over 12 month payroll deduction. Pilots are then reaponsible for repairs going forward, taking the helmet duties away from the employer. A win/win for everyone concerned.

Metro gives a 50% discount on helmets with payroll deduction over 12 months.

The deal is helpful but any extras over a standard build (CEP, volume control etc) wanted by the pilot are charged to the pilot before being shipped. They use ProFlight Gear for the Alpha builds. You do the paperwork at indoc.  After the pilot 1/2 is paid, the helmet is yours.

Did the HEMS thing for 16 years with my Gallet 250. Compact, good noise suppresion and headset/mike, easy to replace pads and "recondition"; the only issue I had was putting the dern thing on my head in the winter. As I said, "compact", fits close to my head, spread the helmet at the buckle/earcups and tuck my ears in- not always easy with my "Alfred E Neuman" jug-handle ears.

The helmet is stiff, doubly so when it's cold but comfortable and relatively quiet considering I didn't have active noise cancellation.

NVG, battery pack, not a balance issue although the goggles do add a lot of bulk and some weight.

Whichever helmet you choose, I strongly encourage dual visors, one clear and one tinted for glare.

I always wore polarized lenses, but one should check individual aircraft for compatability- some aircraft windshields are installed 'conforming' to the windshield frame, the stressed areas will 'rainbow', transparent but distracting.

Couldn't hack how hot the Galet gets.  Went to the suspension SPH4 wannabe.  Hate helmets except in HEMS and the military.  So easy to move quickly and hit the head, and need it for NVGs, definitely mega worthwhile.
