So what is the deal with CHI and the "combat contracts" paying less than HAA does in the states?  Are they actually getting anyone to fly those old S-61s?  I can't imagine anyone in this day and age flying those old things into combat...especially for half what they used to pay for contract work during Iraq and Afghanistan.  Where are they flying that is "combat" these days?  Africa or South America?

Why go overseas for combat flying with  certain cites in good old USA  you can do the same top of operations

Still better than flying EMS. They currently are in 3 country's in Africa and Haiti. 

Man they were a great place to work back when their name was Construction Helicopters from 2011 thru most of 2014, then things went weird just after their first Afghan contract wasn't renewed.  First off the name change from Construction Helicopters to CHI confused the crap out of everyone. Then they concentrated on the  other company, Helimax and the Chinooks.  Helimax management had little interest in the crew that made all the money in Afghanistan which allowed Helimax to expand from Hueys to Chinooks.  They spent more money on building offices in the Sacto hangar, taking up much needed helicopter space and having the offices decorated by an interior designer, than they did on maintenance areas.  Management lost interest in the people, and cared more about the checkbook.  The second Afghan contract they got wasn't the same as the first.  From incountry managers to the folks in Howell, things were not the same.  The whole enviroment was sour.  After that contract ended most of all the original crew had jumped ship.  As far as CASEVAC and the S61... it's hardly viable in Africa.  The longbody lacks the power needed for single engine emergency operation in that enviroment.  

Anyhow... yeah, stateside pay has gone up so much, overseas work doesn't make sense.
