When does wind become turbulance and what are your limitations? Is your go/no-go decision influnced by your mission ex:- Utility, HAA/HEMS, Charter, etc. Or is it a hard fast limitation regardless of passenger type?

Gusting above 30 in mountainous terrain. Slightly more offshore. If saving a deep water crew before hurricane impact, no real limit. I've loaded offshore in winds exceeding 80. Wasn't fun, but I was the last option they had.

you are not going offshore in over 40 knots. they evacuate well before the storms now. you are sol if you wait.

or RFM....usually it is the limits on the aircraft....I know some companies are 30 sustained with a 15kt wind gust for starting/stopping...

The RFM for the AS365 allows you to start with 55kts within 20 degrees off the nose. I've completed rescues offshore with over 50kts of winds and 25' seas while in the Coast Guard and have recently completed hospital transfers/rooftop landings in 45kts of wind. Like others have mentioned, use the limits outlined in the RFM, GOM, and your personal limits before getting yourself in over your head.

A major factor is aircraft type......For example; 206 vs 407

I used hate starting a 206 in wind with any turbulence.

On the other had the 407 was a dream to start in the wind.

In either case make sure no one approaches the aircraft while while starting or shutting down ESPECIALLY in windy conditions.  Those blades really get to flapping.
